Leader In Training

21 Days | July 9-30 | Ages 15-16 | $1,000

Educo's Leaders-In-Training (LIT) Program Educo has worked since our foundation to create opportunities to teach youth about themselves and to develop their independence, leadership potential, and the character strengths which exist in each of them. The LIT program is an extension of that organizational goal and sets up youth to learn additional and more in-depth leadership qualities that will not only help them to become great Educo staff, but help them in life in general.

LIT's exist in that place in between being a camper and being a staff. It is a stepping stone to working as a Junior Counselor for a summer and beyond to Senior Counselor positions, Trip Leaders and potentially Director positions within the organization and beyond. It is challenging, intensive, educational and meaningful and fun.

Educo's 2012 LIT program is a 3 week commitment, taking place from Saturday June 9th to June 30. The entire selection process is designed to be a learning experience similar to that of applying for a job. Interested youth must fill out an application and arrange for an interview.

The program is kept intentionally small and the spaces are competitive, so only those youth who show the most readiness to transition towards a staff member based on their maturity, responsibility, good judgment and potential will be selected. Unfortunately, we also realize because of program space limitations some amazing youth will end up not being selected and hope that all interested youth continue to develop their own potential and consider re-applying to Educo in the future.

Youth selected as LITs must be able to commit to the full 3 weeks as the program will consist of a combination of field bonding, leadership practice, workshops and other modules of our extensive staff training. Youth will practice roles as counselors and practice "in-tent" with our camp programs as they lead activities, work with younger youth and gain more hands on skills and practice under the guidance of both our LIT coordinators and our camp staff and directors.

LIT's will be under the direct supervision of our experienced LIT Coordinators and while youth are still technically "campers", they will be expected to adhere to the same expectations of professionalism and conduct as our staff.

Leaders-in-Training Program Requirements:
To qualify for this program, LITs must be entering their sophomore year in high school, and/or be 15 years of age by the start of camp. LITs should have:

NOTE TO PARENTS: The application process is as much a part of the program as the actual 3 week experience. It is vital for the experience of the youth that they drive this process, fill out their own application, pass out reference forms, arrange for an interview, etc. Please allow them to "own" their success and hurdles in this endeavor. Cost: $1000
